3 militants killed in JK encounter
Srinagar: Three Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants, including a Pakistani national involved in a recent attack on security forces, were killed in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Sunday, police said. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation around midnight in the Reban area of Sopore town following information about the presence of militants there, a police official said. He said the search operation turned into an encounter around 4 am when the hiding militants opened fire at the security forces. The security forces retaliated and in the ensuing gunfight, three militants were killed, the official said. (PTI)
MLA ‘opens fire’ during clash
Chennai: A DMK MLA was on Sunday arrested for allegedly opening fire during a clash with a realtor over a land dispute near here, while ruling AIADMK blamed the main opposition party for “gun culture.” Besides MLA L Idhayavarman, property developer G Kumar and three others who had allegedly assisted the legislator have been arrested, a senior police official said. Police said three cases have been registered under various sections of the IPC and the Arms Act. One was based on a complaint by R Lakshmipathi, father of the MLA against Kumar, another following a plaint by G Kumar against Idhayavarman and 12 others and one more based on a plea by G Srinivasan, who allegedly sustained an injury when the legislator opened fire. SIT reaches Bikru village
Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh): The Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up by the Yogi Adityanath government to probe the various aspects related to the murder of eight policemen in Kanpur on July 3, reached the Bikru village on Sunday. District Magistrate Brahma Dev Ram Tiwari and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dinesh Kumar Prabhu also reached the village. The SIT is led by Additional Chief Secretary Sanjay Bhoosreddy, and comprises ADG Hariram Sharma and DIG J. Ravindra Gaur as members. The SIT is investigating the points from the investigation to the cause of the incident to the encounter. The Special Investigation Team will also probe gangster Vikas Dubey’s rise in the world of crime and how he managed to kill eight policemen in an ambush in his native village earlier this month.
