JOWAI: West Jaintia Hills on Monday morning became a witness to a uxoricide after a man identified as Fortunate Pala reportedly killed his wife, viz. Nimai Phawa at her residence at Mihmyntdu village.
In a bid to conceal the crime, Pala even tried to hang his wife with a rope after perpetrating the murder. The locals informed that their seven-year-old son was also kidnapped and later thrown into a stream along the Jowai Bypass by his father, few miles away from the village.
The boy, however, managed to escape death and reached home, following which he narrated his ordeals to his relatives and neighbours. The police were also informed, following which the body was sent for autopsy.
The accused is at large.
CSWO’s appeal
Condoling the death of Phawa, the CSWO has urged the government to provide support as well as protection to the family of the deceased. It asked the government to ensure that Pala does not get bailed.
