SHILLONG: Owing to the surge in the COVID-19 cases and “the inability of many groups to meet the requirement of the protocols laid down by the government”, the representatives of different faith communities, during a recent meeting, decided that the matter with regard to reopening of religious places will be put off till July-end.
The decision was made during the meeting held at the Bianchi Hall of the Catholic Church, Laitumkhrah, at the initiative of the SKJCLF and its president, Bishop P Lyngdoh.
During the meeting, the SKJCLF and other faithful appealed the people to adhere to all health protocols while lauding the efforts of the state government, frontline warriors, traditional heads and leaders in both rural and urban areas, besides others who are engaged in various ways to combat the pandemic.
The meeting agreed to constitute a new body comprising leaders of different faiths to promote peace and harmony in the state.
The new body would take an active role in engaging with the authorities, to work together on issues that concern the public.
On the other hand, the meeting condemned the issues of racial discriminations as well as communal exclusions prevalent in our society and urged the people to refrain from such attitude.
