SHILLONG: With the road ahead looking daunting, the state government has garnered the strength of community and village leaders besides other members of the society by constituting Community COVID-19 Management Committees/Teams across districts to assist the authorities in combating COVID-19.
The committee comprises of headman/dolloi/nokma as chairman, secretary of the village as member secretary and other members including secretary of the VECs, MGNREGS, pastor/priest or leader of a religious institution, ASHA and Anganwadi workers, assistant teachers (one male and one female each), member of women’s group, member of the youth group, community volunteer member and sector officer advisor. The chairman may co-opt other members from among the village or locality and the total number of members should not exceed 15. For such committees, the government has laid down certain protocols in order effectively contain the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
The committee will identify sites which can be used as a quarantine centre, while at the same time ensuring that those under quarantine do not flout the rules.
As per the protocols, it will also actively engage with the government in contact tracing procedure.
The committee has been entrusted with the task to undertake preparatory steps on burying or cremating the dead as per the COVID-19 guidelines.
