TURA: Wanted criminal Tengrik Ch Marak who broke free from prison three days ago has been recaptured by police from Dadenggre in West Garo Hills in the wee hours of Saturday.
The 28-year-old accused, hailing from Samgong in Williamnagar, is an undertrial prisoner wanted in connection with kidnapping and extortion cases. He was caught last week with a mobile phone inside his cell.
A police team was escorting him from a court hearing back to the Tura district jail on Wednesday night when he broke free while undergoing a sanitization process outside the main prison gate at New Tura. Five policemen deployed on escort duty have been suspended.
Operations were launched in South, East and West Garo Hills to nab him, particularly Williamnagar where his wife hailed from and in Baghmara region where he previously operated.
“We had received inputs that he may be in Dadenggre where his parents have a home. So we launched an operation early in the morning and found him inside the house,” informed West Garo Hills Superintendent of police MGR Kumar.
The police chief revealed that the accused desperately tried to flee once more but was ultimately subdued by the raiding party and has been brought to Tura.
