SHILLONG: Opposition Chief Whip and Congress MLA PT Sawkmie has expressed shock over news report that defence forces do not have their own testing centres.
Moreover, the BSF lacks isolation centres and the Central Reserve Police Force does not have quarantine facilities.
“It is a shock to the people of the state that the defence forces are not prepared to fight the corona virus. All the people of the state and the country thought that the defence forces are well equipped with the testing centres/isolation wards/ventilators and other equipment. Here, we could see that the defence forces are taking the issue very lightly”, Sawkmie said.
According to the legislator, it took more days for the test results of returnees to come out because the government had to test the armed and paramilitary forces.
“Therefore, I urge the heads of the armed and paramilitary forces in the state to inform the Union Home Minister regarding the problems faced by the forces so that it will reduce the burden of the state government”, Sawkmie said.
He also urged the citizens of the state to cooperate with the government to fight against the virus.
