GUWAHATI: Flood situation in Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR) has shown hardly any sign of improvement with over 90 per cent of the park’s core areas still remaining submerged under flood water till date.
The Brahmaputra still flowing above the red mark along its course in Assam including the stretch through the National Park.
The National Park globally known for its one-horned rhinoceros, has so far lost 123 animals in this third wave of flood this year including 2 rhinos and 92 hog deer. Sixty-eight animals have died due to drowning, 17 due to vehicle-hit, 16 while under treatment in CWRC and 18 due to various other reasons.
So far 150 flood-hit animals have been rescued in the national park by forest personnel, CWRC staff and volunteers.
The national park has total 223 camps out of which 152 have been inundated while five submerged camps have been vacated. Among the inundated camps, 31 are in Agaratoli Range, 41 in Kohora Range, 32 in Bagori Range, 11 in Burapahar Range, 15 in Bishwanath Wildlife Division and 18 in Nagaon Wildlife Division.
