NONGSTOIN: The Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills, T Lyngwa, chaired a review meeting on COVID-19 at Vanni’s Hall St Peter’s Higher Secondary School, Pyndengrei on Wednesday.
The DC said that the district administration would enforce three health practices — wearing of masks, sanitising hands and maintaining social distance —, or as he liked to call it “SMS” (sanitisation, masks and social distancing), in order to fight the pandemic.
Pointing out at the penalty for non-adherence to the health protocols, the DC said that it will be strictly imposed in the district.
He also called upon the public to come forward for random testing in order to detect the infection earlier and avail treatment.
Nongstoin MLA Macmillan Byrast, in his address, lauded the joint effort of the district administration and the local authority due to which the West Khasi Hills is so far free from COVID-19.
The MLA maintained that people should be sensitised so that if in future any positive case is detected in the district, people do not panic or stigmatise the patient.
