TURA: Barely two weeks since a jailed criminal was caught with mobile phone in his cell by prison authorities at the Tura district jail, another five undertrial prisoners have been found operating cell phones to communicate with the outside world.
During a surprise checking of the prison cells, jailors and wardens caught five prisoners using cell phones inside which were confiscated.
The prisoners caught with the phones have been identified as Tengsal Sangma, William Sangma, Job D Shira, Silchang N Marak and Simon G Momin.
Only recently, an undertrial prisoner, lodged in the Tura jail for cases involving extortion and kidnapping, was caught with a phone inside.
He was taken to face a court hearing and on the return journey on the night of July 15, the prisoner broke free and escaped, barely metres from the main gate of the jail.
He was caught three days later from his parents’ home in Dadenggre town.
