GUWAHATI: Flood situation in Kaziranga National Park (KNP) has eased a bit with the area under submergence inside the national park being reduced to 75 per cent from 95 per cent, according to the DFO of Eastern Assam Wildlife Division.

The third wave of flood this year has taken a heavy toll on animals in the national park which is better known as abode of Indian rhinoceros. The park has lost 137 animals in the current wave of flood including 14 rhinos and 101 hog deer.

However, 43 forest camps inside the national park out of the total 223 camps have remained under flood water while three camps have remained vacated till date.

The Brahmaputra is now flowing below the danger level at Dhansirimukh near the national park raising hopes for further reduction in the level of flood water in the park in next 24 hours.
