USTM recalls contribution

SHILLONG: Remembering his contribution in setting up the autonomous university, the USTM observed the first death anniversary of former Chief Minister and veteran politician, Donkupar Roy at its head office in Guwahati on Tuesday.
The university Chancellor, Mahbubul Hoque,in his address, said his contribution in setting up our university will never be forgotten. “He was indeed a visionary politician” he added.
The USTM Act was passed during Roy’s tenure as the chief minister between 2008 and 2009.
Later, a floral tribute was given to former Meghalaya Assembly Speaker which was attended by the officials of the university including the vice chancellor, Dr Mridul Hazarika and advisor, Dr RK Sharma.
Addressing the gathering, the vice chancellor, Dr Hazarika, said that one academic block in the USTM campus has already been named after Roy and scholarships are also being provided to underprivileged students in his fond memory.
Donkupar Roy, who represented Shella Constituency from 1988, breathed his last at the age of 64 following multiple-organ failure.
