Pakistan lifts PUBG ban

Islamabad: The Pakistan Telecom­munication Authority (PTA) announced that it has decided to lift the ban on the online game PlayerUnknowns Battle Ground (PUBG). In a statement on Thursday, the authority said that it had met with the legal representatives of the game, reports Dawn news.

“(The) representatives briefed the authority on the response to queries raised by PTA with respect to controls put in place to prevent misuse of the gaming platform.

“The authority expressed its satisfaction on measures adopted so far and emphasised on continued engagement and a comprehensive control mechanism,” it added. (IANS)

Sri Lanka’s top cop arrested

Colombo: Sri Lanka’s top police officer was on Friday arrested for allegedly concealing evidence in a weapons case, police said. Shani Abeysekera, former director of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), is accused of concealing evidence in a weapons case involving former deputy inspector general of police Vas Gunawardena, who is currently in jail.

Gunawardena was jailed for five years by the Colombo High Court in 2018 after he was found guilty of threatening Abeysekera, who was investigating a murder case against him. (PTI)

Two held for assaulting officers

Richmond (US): Two people were arrested for assaulting officers who were working with a city task force to break up an encampment near a Confederate monument in Richmond, police said.

The arrests happened on Thursday as authorities confiscated tents, chairs, and other items near the statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee on Monument Avenue, news outlets reported. Richmond Police said officers removing the items were assaulted by Justin Killough and Kadia Taylor. (AP)

B’desh courts to resume work

Dhaka: The lower courts of Bangladesh will resume normal in-person operations from August 5 after switching to an e-justice system three months ago amid the coronavirus pandemic, it was reported on Friday.

Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain made the decision on consultation with senior judges of the Supreme Court, bdnews24 quoted the apex court as saying in a statement on Thursday.

The authorities must ensure that everyone follows the instructions issued by the High Court on the safety of people on the court premises and inside the courtrooms. (IANS)
