Militant killed in JK encounter
Srinagar: A militant was on Thursday killed in an encounter with security forces in Malbagh area here in Jammu and Kashmir, police said. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation near Habak Crossing, following information about the presence of militants there, a police official said. He said the search operation turned into an encounter after the militants opened fire at the security forces positions. In the exchange of firing, one militant was killed, the official said. He said the identity and group affiliation of the slain militant is being ascertained. (PTI)

Ex-BJP MP booked
Pune: An FIR has been registered against former BJP MP Sanjay Kakade for allegedly threatening his brother-in-law over a family dispute in 2018, police said on Sunday. Kakade’s wife Usha has also been booked on the complaint lodged by her real estate developer brother Yuvraj Dhamale in Chartushringi police station on Saturday. “The complainant alleged that Kakade, a former Rajya Sabha MP, used abusive language and threatened him in 2018 following a dispute between their families,” a police officer said, adding that Dhamale also stated he had been “feeling insecure” since the last two weeks. Sonia Gandhi discharged
New Delhi: Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who was admitted to a private facility here on July 30, was discharged on Sunday, hospital authorities said. The Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH) had earlier said that she was admitted for “routine tests and investigations”. “Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who was admitted on July 30, 2020, evening at 7 pm, to the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, has been discharged today at 1 pm. Her condition at the time of discharge was stable,” Dr D S Rana, Chairman (Board of Management), SGRH, was quoted as saying in a health bulletin. On Friday, the SGRH bulletin said, “Her investigations are being carried out and she is showing satisfactory improvement.” (PTI)

Snake slithers up man’s jeans
Mirzapur (UP): In an incident that has sent shock waves across the district, a man in Sikandarpur village in Uttar Pradeshs Mirzapur district woke up to realise that a cobra had slithered into his jeans while he was asleep. The incident took place last week but came to light after a video of the same went viral on social media. Lovekesh Kumar, labourer who was installing electricity poles and wires, had gone to sleep during lunch time and when he woke up with the cobra in his pants, he slowly stood up and held on to a pole. Reports claim that Kumar stood holding the pole for almost seven hours till a snake charmer was called. (IANS)
