SHILLONG: It has come to the attention of the state government that for months on since COVID infection has broken out, many individuals, while entering the state have furnished spurious information about themselves. The deliberate misinformation was detected as they entered the state and even at the sample collection centres for testing of COVID-19.
The state government has taken a strong exception to fudging of data by some individuals and decided to take action as appropriate under the law.
The state government discussed about the matter in detail on Wednesday’s review meeting.
“We felt that this is a serious matter and it amounts to an attempt to mislead the government,” Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong told reporters.
The government has vowed to trace out all those people who provided false information to the government about their home address and mobile numbers.
“Majority of the cases where false information was shared occurred at the samples collection centres.
However, the Deputy CM could not provide further details about the involved persons.
While terming the act of such people as irresponsible, he said, “Such act is not acceptable at the time when the government along with citizens of the state is engaged in the fight against this pandemic as such actions pose risk to the people.”
In order to keep these elements on check, the government has launched a new system where the information of the test reports would be shared through WhatsApp, he said.
