SHILLONG: With the pandemic-induced restrictions failing to impede the operations of drug peddling, police have, in the last two days, arrested four people and have recovered a large quantity of suspected heroin from their possession.
East Khasi Hills Superintendant of Police, Sylvester Nongtyngner, said that on Sunday evening, the Anti Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) under city DSP, B Jyrwa, received inputs about the smuggling of a drug consignment from Guwahati to Shillong, following which they successfully intercepted the vehicle (ML-05-N8934) at Umiam View Point.
The driver, Jayantai Deb, revealed that one bag was kept under the seat by one, Arneston Dkhar, with the instruction to deliver the said consignment to his wife.
The seized consignment contained suspected heroin, weighing 25.23 grams.
It was only after this that a team was sent to apprehend the receiver of the consignment and in due course, they managed to detained Haldora Marngar, wife of Arneston at HP Petrol Pump, Mawlai.
Later on, Haldora (24) of Mawlai Nongkwar Pata Rim and Jayantai Deb (50) were arrested.
In continuation of Sunday’s operation, police, on Monday afternoon, intercepted a local taxi at Mawkynroh junction, where the drug suppliers, viz. Arneston Dkhar (35) and Rami Juddin (30) were arrested and 18 grams of suspected heroin were seized from their possession.
