Police seize 7,000 litres of illicit liquor

JOWAI: A team of police from Shillong and East Jaintia Hills along with the East Jaintia Hills Excise personnel seized 7,000 litres of illicit liquor from Nongjri near Sakhain village in East Jaintia Hills based on a tip-off.
Nongjri used to be one of the biggest jungle markets of tribal and non-tribal traders where several illegal practices took place when coal mining was at its peak.
The seized spurious liquor is suspected to have been mixed with spirit.
Deepak Kumar Palecha, SP, East Jaintia Hills, informed that one person was arrested and investigation is under way.
