GUWAHATI: A huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered ahead of Independence Day celebrations from Udalguri district of Assam on Thursday night in a joint operation carried out by Guwahati City Police and Udalguri District Police under Bodoland Territorial Autonomous District Council (BTC) area.
The recovery includes five AK-56 assault rifles, two AK-47 assault rifles, two M-16 rifles, seven 9mm pistols (foreign make), one air gun, 23 magazines of AK, LMG, INSAS, five 36 grenades, five HE bombs, seven 40 mm grenades, 166 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, 300 rounds of .303 ammunition, 790 rounds of 9 mm ammunition, 200 detonator caps, 20 striker springs and 20 Kg explosives.
Police informed that the arms and ammunition were recovered hidden under the ground in various parts of Udalguri district. It was suspected to be belonging to the proscribed NDFB outfit and investigation was going on to find out details.
The operation was carried out on the basis of a tip-off received by Guwahati city police and in coordination with Udalguri District Police.
