SHILLONG: The KHADC Chief Executive Member (CEM), Titos Chyne, has demanded the removal of the head of Mawmluh Cherra Cement Limited (MCCL) and has also urged the latter to conduct an inquiry leading to the poor state of the state-owned company.
Chyne, who was accompanied by the office-bearers of Hima Sohra and Elaka Mawmluh to meet Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, on Friday, said, “There should be an inquiry into the reasons as to why the MCCL is at its present situation. We have also demanded to remove the head of the MCCL who has been there for a long time”.
Chyne also urged the chief minister to release the salaries of the MCCL employees that have been pending for months.
“We have seen the hardships of the MCCL employees as they have not received their salary for months”.
Stating that they have discussed ways and means to help the affected employees with Conrad, the CEM said, “We want the government to strengthen the company. We do not want the MCCL to close down. However, as for now, we are looking forward to the assistance from the state government”.
Despite the government releasing money to the MCCL time and again and keeping 2019 as the target year for the proper functioning of the state-owned company, the results have not been fruitful, he said.
When asked, Chyne said that the chief minister is serious about the matter and has ensured to explore ways and means to alleviate the problems of the MCCL.
The group has also submitted a memorandum to Conrad.
Meanwhile, the office-bearers of Hima Sohra sought the immediate release of all financial dues of suppliers and workers, comprising pending salaries, overtimes and arrears, besides clearance of all the bills of the raw material suppliers.
Reminding that they had earlier submitted a proposal for permanent solution to the functioning of the MCCL, the Hima said that the present employees should be provided with an option to either continue working in the company or opt for voluntary retirement scheme.
The Hima also mentioned that the government should take the office of Durbar of Sohra Syiemship into confidence before moving any final decision to implement a resolution and completely changing the modus operandi of the factory.
