GUWAHATI: In yet another setback to militant activities in Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD), a huge cache of illegal arms and ammunition was recovered by police from lower Assam’s Kokrajhar district on Sunday.

“In continuation of our fight against militancy in BTAD areas, Kokrajhar police  recovered five AK Rifles, one INSAS (Indian Small Arms System) rifle, one MMG (medium machine gun) with chain, five pistols and a huge quantity of ammunition from Saraibil and Sarfanguri areas of Kokrajhar,” Assam Police informed through Twitter.

“The quest continues. In Kokrajhar, jungles yielded another hidden consignment,” additional director general of police (law and order), G.P Singh, said.

It may be mentioned that security forces in the run-up to Independence Day earlier this month, police had recovered huge caches of arms and ammunition from different places in BTAD, including Baksa, Udalguri and Chirang districts.

On the eve of Independence Day, police recovered a huge cache of arms, ammunition, explosives, including sophisticated weapons in Udalguri district.

Earlier, on August 10, police seized arms and ammunition from Panijani part 2 jungle area under Tulsibil outpost of Gossaigaon police station in Kokrajhar district.
