Man throws 3 minor sons into river, jumps in
Raigarh: A 38-year-old man reportedly threw his three minor sons into a river before jumping into it apparently over a family dispute in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh on Sunday, police said. A search operation was launched to trace them in the river, which is in spate due to heavy rains in the area, they said. “The incident took place early in the morning at a bridge on Maand river under Kharsia police station limits,” Raigarh Superintendent of Police Santosh Singh said. The man, identified as Kartikeshwar Rathiya, a native of Edu village, was heading to Barra village along with his sons Khirsagar (5), Narmada (3) and eight-month-old Tej Prakash on a motorcycle, he said. He suddenly stopped the vehicle on the bridge and threw his children into the river and later jumped into it, he said. (PTI)

BSF nabs Pak fisherman
Bhuj (Gujarat): Four Pakistani boats were seized by the Border Security Force on Sunday from ‘Harami Nallah’ creek along the India-Pakistan border in Gujarat’s Kutch district, the force said. A fisherman, identified as Alla Bachao Siddique (25), from Sindh province of Pakistan was apprehended, while others managed to escape, it said. A patrolling team of the BSF’s Bhuj unit observed movement of four to five Pakistani men on boats near the ‘Harami Nallah’, in Kutch region, at around 6 am, it said. (PTI)

Bihar minister sacked
Patna: Bihar’s Industries Minister and JD(U)’s national general secretary Shyam Rajak was on Sunday sacked from the state cabinet and expelled from the party. JD(U)’s chief spokesperson Sanjay Singh said he has been expelled for six years over anti-party activities. Shyam Rajak has been sacked from the state cabinet and he has also been expelled from the party for six years for his anti-party activities, Singh told PTI. Speculation was rife that Rajak may leave the JD(U) as he was not happy with his party and Industries Secretary S Siddharth with whom he had differences over running the department. (PTI)

Service elephants get vacation
Bhopal: Sixteen elephants deployed for carrying out different forest-related tasks, like patrolling, in Madhya Pradesh’s Kanha Tiger Reserve (KTR), got a break from their routine work and enjoyed a week-long vacation recently, an official said on Sunday. This “rejuvenation camp” for elephants, which ended on Thursday, was part of a 12-year-old tradition of the KTR, he said. “These tuskers help us in different tasks like patrolling, tiger tracking and averting man animal-conflict all the year round. So this camp is our thanksgiving gesture to them for their toil,” KTR field director L Krishnamurthy told PTI on Sunday. (PTI)

Poet’s body found hanging from pole
Muzaffarnagar (UP): The body of a 58-year-old Urdu poet was found hanging from a pole in the neighbouring Shamli district with police suspecting it to be a case of suicide, an official said on Sunday. The body of Abdulsami alias Galib Karanvi was found in Kairana town on Saturday evening, said SHO Premvir Rana. The body has been sent for post-mortem and an investigation is underway. (PTI)
