GUWAHATI: The Assam government on Tuesday announced the provincialisation of 355 educational institutes under the directorate of secondary education and 27 colleges under the directorate of higher education.

Addressing reporters at Janata Bhawan on Tuesday, state education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed satisfaction that with the announcement, the process of provincialisation of educational institutes has finally materialised after six years.

He said that 3980 posts, including 3,049 secondary education teachers’ posts and 931 higher education teacher posts, have also been provincialised.

The minister further said that the Governor has approved the lists regarding the provincialisation which would be available on the websites of the directorates of secondary education and higher education.

On the other hand, as many as 22,000 female students securing first division in the Class XII examinations this year would be given a scooty each by October 15, 2020 under the Pragyan Bharati scheme.

“The scooties would help the female students in commuting to their respective educational institutions from home,” Sarma said.

Each scooty would cost between Rs 50,000-55,000 and the beneficiaries can opt for either electric or fuel-operated scooties, which however cannot be sold for three years.
