TURA: South West Garo Hills on Wednesday banned the import of pigs into the district from other states and districts including Assam-Meghalaya border and indo Bangladesh border with a strict warning that violators of the order would invite action under Section 188 IPC.

The measure has been taken in view of confirmed cases of African Swine Flu (ASF) in certain villages of West Jaintia Hills, East Khasi Hills and Ribhoi districts and to prevent the spread of the highly contagious disease to the district.

In an order issued under Section 144 CrPC by the District magistrate, all government pig farms, private pig farms and pig farmers have been instructed to take adequate measures for strict hygiene and bio-security measures such as disinfection of the farms, equipments etc and restricting entry of any outside persons to pig farms.

“Sign of high fever in pigs and any abnormal mortality in pigs should be brought to the notice of District AH & Veterinary officer or Block AH & Veterinary officer. People can also call on mobile nos. +917085253411, +918837061437 and +917005228601,” the order added.
