TURA: South West Garo Hills on Wednesday banned the import of pigs into the district from other states and districts including Assam-Meghalaya border and indo Bangladesh border with a strict warning that violators of the order would invite action under Section 188 IPC.

The measure has been taken in view of confirmed cases of African Swine Flu (ASF) in certain villages of West Jaintia Hills, East Khasi Hills and Ribhoi districts and to prevent the spread of the highly contagious disease to the district.
