Cong remembers Rajiv Gandhi

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee observed the 76th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi at Windermere Estate, Umpling here on Thursday.
Charles Pyngrope, MLA and president of Shillong City District Congress Committee lit the ceremonial lamp and paid floral tribute before the portrait of Gandhi.
After the meeting, the MPCC led by Pyngrope also distributed food packets to Mercy Home at Demthring.
Congress leaders James S Lyngdoh, MP Vincent H Pala, Lamphrang Blah, and Kennedy C Khyriem were also present on the occasion, where the attendance was restricted as per the COVID-19 protocol.
Addressing the participants of the observance, the MPCC working president, James S Lyngdoh, touched upon the life and contribution of Rajiv Gandhi and the supreme sacrifice made by him in protecting the sovereignty and integrity of the nation, while Shillong MP Pala dwelt on his achievements as a young prime minister.
Meanwhile, the Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC), along with the Indian Youth Congress, observed the occasion at Congress Bhawan, Tura, on the theme ‘Plant Trees Save Lives’ which was also a symbolic protest against the draft EIA Notification 2020.
