SHILLONG: The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) and the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Laskein Block circle, have urged the Chief Engineer PWD (Roads) to follow up on the technical bid on the upgradation/improvement of Pysih-Garampani road under Meghalaya Integrated Transport Project World Bank.
In a letter to the chief engineer, the groups expressed concern over the badly damaged 26.982-km Pysih-Garampani Road, which poses a threat to people during monsoon and night-time.
The organisations recalled that an e-tender for the project was also called on June 20 this year and it was also funded under the Meghalaya Integrated Transport Project for an amount of Rs 66,70,33,300.
The organisations have urged the official to not hand over the project to an unqualified contractor and instead conduct a fair allotment based on the past performance of the bidder.
Commenting on the state government’s move to promote tourism in the area, the organisation questioned the step sans a motorable road.
