TURA: As part of the nationwide launching of POSHAN Abhiyan, National Nutrition Mission for the third consecutive year, the Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills Ram Singh launched the Poshan Maah at Nikrang A’ding Anganwadi Centre in Tura on Tuesday.
Considering the importance of the health indicators of mothers and children in the district, the programme was launched despite the lockdown due to Covid-19 pandemic with few participants.
Speaking during the program, Ram Singh said that the aim was to make India malnutrition free by providing adequate nutrition to infants, pregnant and lactating mothers. He also suggested that children between 0 to 5 years should be given nutritious food including locally available fruits and green vegetables besides providing regular immunisation. While informing that it is a month long program, he said that it should not stop when the program is over and the process should be continued so that health of mothers and children are improved and remain healthy.
In his keynote address, District Program Officer, Urban ICDS Project Chonseng Arengh informed that the program initiated by the Government of India aims to boost nutrition among children and women and the theme for this year is “Identification and Management of SAM (Severely Acute Malnourished) Children” and to “Promote Kitchen Garden” so that healthy organic vegetables can be consumed by everyone.
