ALS’ webinar on language and literature

TURA: The International Seminar on Webinar on Language and Literature organized by the A’chik Literature Society in collaboration with the Department of Garo, NEHU Tura Campus was held as scheduled on August 29, 31 and September 1.

A total of 28 scholars from the North-East India and 2 from Bangladesh presented their papers during the programme. Besides papers on language and literature, topics included aspects of agriculture, environment, traditional wisdom and horticulture. A paper on the characteristics of Boro, a cognate language of A’chik, was also presented by a native speaker. One of the papers was an essay on man, science and the powers of nature.

Special features of the webinar include presentations from Bangladesh on farming and horticulture in their land by the A’chiks, their culture and language which are under threat, and a paper from the science stream highlighting some underutilized fruit crops of Garo Hills.

Altogether, 29 papers, some in A’chik and others in English, were read and discussed in both the languages and the entire programme was also uploaded on youtube.
