TURA: Panic-stricken shopkeepers from Chokpot market in South Garo Hills on Thursday morning downed their shutters after two occupants of separate supply trucks, transporting cement to the region, tested positive for COVID-19.
According to sources, while the first case was detected on Wednesday, another occupant of a truck tested positive on Thursday. Both have been taken to Baghmara for treatment.
South Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, HB Marak, confirmed the positive cases albeit he denied having any knowledge of the out-of-the-blue closure of shops. “I am not aware of shops closing down but we immediately brought the two to Baghmara and they will be kept under quarantine,” Marak said.
Meanwhile, local sources including the GSU confirmed that as soon as the news with regard to the positive cases was disseminated, the shopkeepers, out of fear, shut their shops down.
