SHILLONG: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), Nongdisong Mawiawa unit, has expressed concern over the slow progress of Nongstoin—Sonapahar—Mawliehbah road construction and has petitioned the Executive Engineer PWD (Roads), Nongstoin, seeking his intervention into the matter.
The FKJGP, in a statement on Thursday, said the deplorable road condition is dangerous for ailing and pregnant women.
The organisation said the 2-km road, under the scheme Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), was sanctioned at an amount of Rs 96.29 lakh.
Meanwhile, the Executive Engineer PWD (Roads), Nongstoin, has assured that he will look into the matter and will start the road construction soon.
It may be mentioned that the road covers many villages such as Mawlangdep, Mawliehbah, Mawnar, Nongdisong, Mawiawa, Kaikohram, Mawkohruit, and Mawrok.
