SHILLONG: Twelve years after its conception, the Ganol hydel project, described as game-changer for power supply in Garo Hills, made a little progress on Monday with the Meghalaya Government approving a revised estimate cost of Rs 507.71 crore for the completion of the 22.5 MW Project.
On Monday, Power Minister, James Sangma said that the project was originally accorded administrative approval in 2008 and due to many reasons, the project estimate was revised to Rs 332.68 crore in 2013.
Later, in the year 2014, the project was again revised to Rs 356.43 crore due to the increase in land cost as per the new land acquisition act but however the administrative approval was accorded only in the year 2019.
The revised date projected for completion of the project is September 2022.
The Central Water Commission which was the consultant for the project later revised the drawings which led to the increase in quantity of several components and some geological surprises at project site which led to a cost escalation.
