SHILLONG: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of NEHUTA, NEHUNTSA and NEHUSU of the  NEHU staged a silent protest on Tuesday alleging all round failure, non-performance and absence of the Vice Chancellor, S.K. Srivastava and also demanded to non-extension of his term in office.

Chairman of the JAC, X.P. Mao said that they would request that the senior most professor to be made  the acting VC until a new VC is appointed as and when the present VC, Srivastava retires later this month..

“Our rules are very clear as soon as the terms of the VC gets over the senior most professor takes over therefore we will request senior most professor to be the acting VC until a new VC is appointed”, he said.

The JAC chairman is also peeved at the VC for not releasing the list of seniority which he should have done and bluntly said, “He never does any important work which he should do”.

Mao said that the seniority list should be released every year but the VC has never done as such and the teaching faculty is also oblivious to the list.

Asked about the next plan of action if the VC is adamant, Mao said the JAC will resort to democratic process to show our protest if VC does not step down on September 23.
