GUWAHATI: In a major breakthrough against insurgent groups in Nagaland, security forces apprehended two active cadres of NSCN-K (NK) near Bhaimo village in Zunehoboto on Wednesday night, an official statement issued here, said.
A search operation was launched based on specific inputs about the movement of armed cadres at Bhaimo.
“The security forces’ column was fired upon by unknown insurgents. In retaliatory fire, two cadres were apprehended, including one in an injured condition, who was immediately evacuated to the district hospital by the police, where he succumbed to his injuries,” the statement said.
The apprehended persons were later identified as cadres of the proscribed outfit NSCN- K (NK).
The troops also recovered one 9mm pistol, two magazines, four fired cartridge cases and 23 live rounds.
“Two local men apprehended at the site were later released to their parents in the presence of the police and Gaon Burha (village headman),” it said.
