SHILLONG: With the state government giving the go-ahead for the reopening of religious places starting October if only the pandemic situation in state gets better, the Shillong All Faiths’ Forum (SAFF) on Thursday said that the safety of public should come first.
In a statement on Thursday, the SAFF said that a general meeting of SAFF was which deliberated on the matters pertaining to the SOPs for reopening of places of worship.
Among those who attended were representatives from Sein Raij Jowai, Shillong Muslim Union, Central Puja Committee, Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Shillong Buddhist Association, Ramakrishna Mission Laitumkhrah, Archdiocese of Shillong, Church of North India, Seventh Day Adventist Church, Unitarian Church, Garo Baptist Church, while messages and inputs were received from the Ri-Bhoi Presbyterian Church Synod, NEI Fellowship of Charismatic Churches, Assembly Church of Jesus Christ India, and individual Church leaders.
The government on Wednesday constituted a committee to re-examine the SOP for reopening of religious places.
