GUWAHATI: With heavy rainfall recorded across parts of Assam, close to 34,000 people across five revenue circles of four districts – Dhemaji, Chirang, Lakhimpur and Biswanath – remain flooded, while one deluge-related death was reported from Biswanath district, the Assam State Diasaster Management Authority reported on Monday evening.

Meanwhile, waterlogging was reported from various areas of Kamrup Metro, including Jorabat under Sonapur revenue circle, 8th Mile, Keraikuchi, Hatigaon, VIP, Rukminigaon, Last Gate, Odalbakra, Wireless under Dispur revenue circle and Athgaon under Guwahati revenue circle, following a heavy downpour on Monday morning.

Many waterlogged localities in the city, including the busy GS Road witnessed traffic snarls as vehicles remained stranded for some time, especially at points where construction of flyovers are currently going on.

According to the Central Water Commission report on Monday morning, the Jia Bhoroli river at NT Crossing in Sonitpur was flowing above danger level.
