Social services in state to mark PM’s b’day

SHILLONG: In order to mark the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the state BJP has announced a slew of programmes that include social services.
BJP Mahila Morcha National president, Vijaya Rahatkar, on Wednesday visited the city for the inauguration of the weeklong ‘Sewa Saptah’ programme of the BJP.
During the inauguration programme at the party office, BJP State President, Ernest Mawrie, welcomed Rahatkar, who later launched a video full of birthday wishes for the prime minister.
Rahatkar also visited the Holy Child Mercy Home at Demthring and distributed blankets, sanitisers, masks, fruits, etc. to the elderly.
Stating that there could be no greater way of showing respect to the prime minister other than rendering services to the people, Mawrie said that the party will carry out cleanliness drives, distribute wheelchairs to the specially-abled, plant trees, participate in the cleaning of the Umsohlang River and seed it with fish to restore the marine ecology.
He said that the party will also organise prayer meetings for the prime minister and will distribute ration, fruits and vegetables, masks and sanitisers among the needy.
