SHILLONG: BJP legislator and Health Minister AL Hek spilled the beans when he revealed that he had discussed BJP’s prospects in Meghalaya with Prime Minister Narendra Narendra Modi during his tenure as a Congress MLA and while Modi was then (2014) the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
Sharing anecdotes of his association with the prime minister during the celebration of the Prime Minister’s 70th birthday in the state BJP office headquarters on Thursday, Hek said that Modi had called him up and invited him to Ahmedabad for discussing BJP’s prospects in Meghalaya.
“He (Modi) called and said that he wanted to meet me, and asked me to come to Ahmedabad. I was then the Health Minister in 2014. I sat with him for up to 40 minutes. We discussed about matters relating to the party in his chamber”, he said to an audience of BJP members.
“I was very happy that despite being a politician from another party, he exuded confidence and trust in me, for which I am grateful. Now I am back to the BJP and in my 5th consecutive term winning from the same constituency and inducted as Health Minister once again,” he said.
Having been associated with BJP from the beginning, Hek said that when he was the president of Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in 1998, Modi held the position of national in-charge of BJYM and they also organised an office bearers’ meeting.
Reminiscing of the humble beginnings of the party, he said, “We worked day and night on strengthening the party and to take the flag of the BJP to every nook and corner”.
Terming Modi as “the greatest man”, Hek said that the leader has united the country as one.
