TURA: In what can be called a bizarre incident, a man was caught stealing from an offering box of a church shrine located in Williamnagar on Wednesday night.
The collection box, kept next to a shrine of the Catholic Church in Soil Conservation locality of Williamnagar, is regularly filled with donations from the devotees who offer prayers there.
Coming to know of the collection box and taking advantage of the darkness, a local criminal broke it open and was about to make off with the collection until some passersby spotted him and raised an alarm.
Joining in, other passersby collared the man and trashed him before handing him over to police.
The stolen money, amounting to a couple of hundred rupees, was then successfully recovered.
