NONGPOH: Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner, RM Kurbah, on Friday informed that the number of recovered COVID-19 cases has exceeded the caseload of the district by 91.
Speaking to media persons, Kurbah informed that various schools, which were being used as quarantine centres, have been vacated except St. Paul’s Higher Secondary School, Nongpoh.
The school was turned into a Corona Care Centre and would soon be shifted to the GNM Nursing School at Pahamsyiem, Kurbah said.
At present, there are four Corona Care Centres in the district —State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD), Nongsder, Conservation Training Institute (CTI), Byrnihat, Tourism Center, Umling and St. Pauls Higher Secondary School.
Informing that the government has eased the entry of people into the district, precisely through the screening check point at Byrnihat, the DC said that details like identity card, place of stay and registration at www.meghalayaonline.gov.in/covid are to be furnished, besides undergoing test for COVID-19.
Pertaining to the incident where the service of an ASHA worker, Imshida Thangkhiew, hailing from Nongsier Jirang village, was illegally terminated by the village leaders, the DC said that the worker has been reinstated and resumed work at Patharkhmah CHC.
On the other hand, with the aim of easing the burden of the DC, a COVID-19 management committee, led by respective MLAs of five constituencies of Ri Bhoi, was also constituted.
The DC, meanwhile, informed that the areas which have been declared as containment zone in Ri Bhoi include Cantonment area, Umroi, North East Police Academy, Umiam, Patharkhmah CHC and SBI, Umsning Branch.
