Police ask public to be wary of online scammers

SHILLONG: In view of increasing usage of online services and cases of phishing and scamming, the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, S Nongtnger, on Monday, advised public against responding to requests by scammers that may rob them of their resources.
Mostly reported scams include fake job offers and advertisements, fraudulent transactions through online shopping facilities — OLX App, Amazon App, Google Pay and Pay-TM —, fancy-looking lotteries, phishing messages, frauds targeting retd. government personnel etc.
The SP, while advising public against responding to such offers and requests, urged them to approach the nearest police station or call helpline number 100 for queries before entertaining any kind of requests.
