SHILLONG: Several Dorbar Shnong in Pynthorumkhrah and Golf Links areas have expressed unhappiness with the management of Shillong Golf Course alleging that the latter has not regulated the movement of people to the scenic place during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The Dorbas, which attended a meeting convened by the Pasteur Beat House on Tuesday, demanded that the management of the Golf Course must take measures to regulate the movement of large number of people, who are thronging the venue on weekends.
Some of the Dorbars from nearby localities claimed that they urged the public not to visit the area, making public announcements, but to no avail.
Alleging that the management was not doing anything to prevent entry as well as free movement of the public, they added that it is high time that it took some preventive measures to stop people from going inside the Course amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Crowds particularly throng the area on Sundays, and last Sunday, too, witnessed gathering of a large number of people and several vehicles were also parked on the roadside, which resulted in traffic snarls in the area for some time in the evening.
During the meeting, some of the Dorbars further alleged that as the Course remains open without any barricade, it is also used by anti-social elements for unlawful activities.
Last month, the Shillong Club Ltd had written to the Chief Engineer of PWD asking permission for erecting a bamboo barricade along the public roads bisecting and crisscrossing the golf course to check violation of COVID-19 protocols at the Course by footballers, picnickers and bootleggers.
The project has been estimated at a cost of Rs 1.75 lakh and the Department has been requested to contribute 50 per cent of the funds.
The meeting also discussed the COVID-19 management committees, cleaning drives, public announcement systems and garbage collection in areas which fall under the Pasteur Beat House.
