GUWAHATI: Three Nigerian nationals were apprehended from the Assam-Tripura border in Karimganj district for allegedly entering the country without any valid documents, police said.

Police said that the trio, identified as Nnamdi Bernard Nwali, Prince Paul and Eze Collins, were initially detained from Churaibari check point under Bazaricherra police station during a routine check on Wednesday afternoon.

An official statement issued here said that the three Nigerians were coming in a Guwahati-bound Maruti van (bearing registration number TR-01H -0206) when they were stopped at Churaibari check point.

“During interrogation, they confessed to have entered India through Bangladesh via Tripura. They however could not produce any valid passports/documents for their entry into India,” the statement said.

A case has been registered against the foreign nationals under relevant sections of the Foreigners Act, 1946 read with Section 6 of the Passport (Entry into India) Rules.

According to police, the Nigerian nationals had come to Tripura from Delhi by train with the help of a broker and were working in Tripura for some months.
