Five feared dead in massive landslide at Dhobi Ghat at Laban in Shillong

SHILLONG: Five persons were feared dead in a landslide that occurred early Friday morning at Parmaw Dhobi Ghat Laban in the city and damaged three wooden houses completely.

It was learnt that following five persons went missing after the landslide: Firoza Khan (40), D/O Late Jaan Mohamed khan; Reziya Ahmed (38), D/O Farid Ahmed; Ms Bela Ahmed (40), D/O Late Hasmed Ali; Imaded Nongrum (60), S/O Late Hayed Nongrum and Kayam Uddin (42), S/O MD Sakumia.  All of them were residents of the houses damaged completely in the landslide.

All other occupants of the area were shifted to other safe place for the time being. Two occupants who were washed away, managed to come out of the nearby stream. They were identified as Md Hasmuddin (30), S/0 MD Rubbidin Mian and his elder brother Md. Azamuddin (35). They were provided emergency medical help by the 108 emergency service team at the site.

One injured in the landslide, Thomas Mylliemngap, S/O Samuel Myrthong was shifted to Shilong Civil Hospital for treatment.
