TURA: Detection of more positive cases of COVID-19 in different parts of the region has compelled authorities to seal one locality in Tura town and another market in the bustling Hallidayganj town located in the plains of West Garo Hills on Saturday.
The Brahminpara locality in the heart of Tura town was turned into a containment zone by health teams after six persons tested positive during random testing in the area. “During our random tests, one person from a family in the locality was found positive. On further contact tracing, we detected five other persons from different households, indicating the spread of the virus. So we have declared the locality as containment zone to allow surveillance teams to undertake aggressive contact tracing of the population,” informed West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh, on Saturday evening.
He added that results of more people who were tested were still awaited and did not rule out the possibility of a rise in the positive cases. One of the persons identified positive with the virus had only recently returned from Guwahati city, confirmed the deputy commissioner.
Further West, in the plain-belt region of the district, authorities have turned the Khan Alyssa market area opposite Hallidayganj police station and the areas under Jeldupara primary health centre of the same town into a micro-containment zone after six new cases were detected during similar random testing.
With the imposing of micro-containment zone, authorities have restricted the unregulated entry and exit movement of people in the Jeldupara zone.
