TURA: The memorial service to pay tribute to the nine Garo martyrs who lost their lives while protesting the alleged bifurcation of the MBoSE on September 30, 2005 will not be held this year in view of the pandemic, The 30th September Victims’ Solidarity Forum said in a statement.
It may be mentioned that the memorial service was usually held every year at Chandmary and Rongrenggre playground in Tura and Williamnagar respectively.
“The Inter Denominational Memorial Church Service for the martyrs will not be held this year in Chandmary. However, the forum leaders along with the family members of the victims, constituent organisations of the forum and its leaders will visit the graveyards of the martyrs and will pay a floral tribute at the memorial Cenotaph, in Chandmary,” chairman of the forum, Manseng A Sangma informed.
Meanwhile, the organisers from Williamnagar have also informed that tribute would be paid to the fallen martyrs at the Cenotaph at Rongrenggre playground only by the victims’ families and few members of the forum.
