GUWAHATI: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has expressed its grave concern over fake and baseless news that have been spread against it in both social and print media in the last couple of days.

USTM, considered as education hub of the north east, has been catering education in almost all major disciplines of studies with due approvals and recognition from the statutory bodies since its inception in the year 2011.

In Press Communique-cum- clarification issued by the USTM on Tuesday, the authority of the institution has informed that its B. Ed Programme is approved by National Council for Teachers Education (NCTE), MBA programme is approved by AICTE, New Delhi, LLB and BA LLB programmes are approved by Bar Council of India, B. Bharma and D. Pharma Courses are approved by Pharmacy Council of India so on.

“It is extremely disheartening to note that Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has tried to malign the image of this university by spreading false information that the university is running its B.Ed Programme without approval from NCTE whereas Prof. Qoumrul Hoque School of Education (PQSE) of University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya has been offering B.Ed. programme since the year 2014 with due approval from National Council for Teachers’ Education (NCTE), Eastern Regional Committee (ERC), Bhubaneswar,” the USTM

The varsity authority has clarified that the NCTE keeps on asking various documents from its approved institutions on a regular basis for the purpose of updating their records and fulfilling their requirements.

“As a matter of fact, NCTE asked for certain documents from USTM during the last academic session 2018-19 and accordingly both soft and hard copies of all the requisite documents were sent to NCTE office. But the hardcopies of the documents reached the NCTE Office little late by the time the NCTE-ERC already had held their scheduled meeting and due to non-receipt of the said documents, the permission for new admission for 2020-21 was kept pending,” the USTM stated.

“However, the university made an appeal immediately for reconsideration of the above decision as per the provision given in the NCTE order and accordingly, the matter was duly considered for restoration of recognition by the committee in their 284th meeting held on 17th & 18th September, 2020 (vide Sl. No. 31, page no 14 of the Minutes of 284th meeting of the ERC held on 17th & 18th September, 2020 as uploaded in the NCTE Website).

“The advertisement notification for admission into B. Ed Programme for the session 2020-21 has been released only after getting clearance from NCTE on restoration of recognition as many students particularly from Meghalaya were constantly pursuing about the new admission in B Ed Programme.

“In the meantime, the Khasi Students Union (KSU) has spread this fake news, without verifying the facts from the university authority and tried to harm the image of the university which is striving so hard for more than a decade to impart the quality education in the state of Meghalaya and the north east region as a whole,” the USTM stated.
