Three convicted in as many rape cases of minors

NONGSTOIN: In three cases pertaining to rape of minor victims, the court of the District Session Judge-cum-Special judge (POCSO), West Khasi Hills, has recently convicted as many persons, handing them prison terms and fines, and ordering compensation to the victims.
The Court has convicted Promtis Dkhar of Maweit village, under Nongstoin Police Station, in one of the case.
Promtis has been awarded 10 years rigorous imprisonment, with fine of Rs 10,000, failing which he will further undergo two months’ simple imprisonment.
The victim will receive compensation of Rs 2 lakh from the convict.
In another case, the Court, on September 25, convicted Buwelstar L Marshillong of Lawse village of rape of a minor.
Marshillong was given a sentence of seven years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5000, failing to pay which will lead to 15 days of simple imprisonment.
The convict will also pay compensation to the victim to the tune of Rs 2 lakh.
Further, the Court found Phailang L Marshillong guilty of raping a minor and was handed 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000, failing to pay which he has to undergo another 1 month of simple imprisonment. Phailang will also have to pay a compensation of Rs 3 lakh to the victim.
