Staff reinstated in cement plants
JOWAI: The intervention of Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has led to the reinstatement and appointment of two persons in two cement plants in East Jaintia Hills. While JUD Cement Limited, situated at Wahiajer Narpuh in East Jaintia Hills, reinstated Ribancy Chyrmang after she was terminated by the company without any reasons, Gold Stones Cement Limited, Moosiang Lamare, appointed Marvel Nangbah on compassionate grounds following the demise of his father, who was an employee of the company. The reinstatement and the appointment were achieved due to the intervention of the KSU, Narpuh Circle, supported by its Khliehriat and Jaintia Hills District counterparts. According to president of KSU, Narpuh Circle, Kwilness Suciang, the Union had locked down the two cement plants as their request to reinstate Chyrman and appoint Nangbah in the respective companies was not heeded. Both the cement plants were locked down for three hours, and the doors allowed to be opened only after the managements decided to keep the requests made by the KSU. It may be mentioned here that most cement plants in East Jaintia Hills promise to provide 60 percent job opportunities to locals, but fail to keep it, claiming that the local people do not meet the skill requirements.
