Condolence
The state president of Lok Janshakti Party, Jamil Ahmed, has conveyed his condolences over the demise of LJP Leader and Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan. In a tweet, Ahmed called Paswan a great leader and was proud to have worked under his guidance.
Natl Postal Week
The National Postal Week 2020 will be held at Shillong GPO from October 9 to 15. Activities that will be held during the event include Post Forum Day (October 9), Banking Day (October 10), PLI Day (October 12), Philately Day (October 13), Business Development Day (October 14) and Mail Day (October 15).
PDS quota
The Deputy Commissioner (Supply) of East Khasi Hills has informed that rice under PMGKAY scheme (AAY and PHH) for October and wholemeal atta for September has been released through the respective fair price shops. Rice under PMGKAY will be issued free of cost for AAY and PHH at a scale of 5 kg per head. For wholemeal atta, the scale of issue is 5 kg per card in urban area and 3 kg per card in rural area at Rs 10.50 per kg.
Night curfew
West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner has extended the night curfew in the district till 6 am of October 16. According to the order, the curfew will be imposed between 9 pm and 5 am every day. The directives pertaining to the relaxations and restrictions remain the same.
Containment
West Jaintia Hills District Magistrate has declared the house and compound owned by Hunbait Challam, Dulong, Jowai, as a micro-containment area until further orders. The order comes in the wake of detection of COVID-19 cases/ high-risk contacts. Meanwhile, in East Jaintia Hills, the District Magistrate has lifted the containment zone tag from Star Cement.
