Hek asks Centre to sanction second tribal research institute in state

SHILLONG: Health Minister AL Hek has put up a proposal with the Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Arjun Munda to set up a tribal research institute in Khasi-Jaintia Hills region in addition to the one which has already been sanctioned in Garo Hills.
Hek made the demand during his meeting with the Union Minister in the national capital.
“The Union minister has asked me to submit a formal proposal,” Hek said after the meeting.
In addition, Hek has also requested the minister to grant immediate sanction to a scheme for upgradation of CHCs and PHCs in Meghalaya.
The Ministry has already given principal approval for the projects, Hek said, while adding that the Ministry will sanction around 20-30 schemes for the state at a total cost of around Rs 30 crore.

Meanwhile, the Health minister was felicitated at a function held at Sonipat, Haryana.
Hek was feted for rendering humanitarian services during the COVID-19 pandemic.
