MLA lays base for two water projects

SHILLONG: South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai, on Saturday, laid the foundation stone for the implementation of the iron pipe systems of two water supply schemes in the city to commemorate the first death anniversary of Late Archbishop Dominic Jala.
The ductile iron pipe system of additional water supply to St John areas from Sibnath water source, Madan Laban, was sanctioned at around Rs 38.4 lakh, while a similar pipe system of additional water supply to Madan Laban areas from Patakhana water source, Madan Laban was sanctioned for an amount of over Rs 23 lakh, a statement issued here said.
Both the initiatives, costing over Rs 61.4 lakh, have been sanctioned under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme as per the recommendation of the South Shillong MLA, it added.
Addressing the foundation stone laying function, Shullai assured that the implementation of the project will begin without delays.
The MLA lauded the efforts of the PHE department and Shillong Municipal Board as well as the active participation of the Dorbar Shnong of Madan Laban and Riat Laban besides the land owners who parted off their land free of cost.
Shullai said that the implementation of the water supply project will address to the problems related to water shortage and leakage in these areas.
