SHILLONG: Bobby Nongbet who managed Shillong Lajong in 2017-2018 I-League season, expressed his sorrow on the demise of Carlton Chapman.
“Gone too soon. May his soul rest in peace.” Said Bobby L Nongbet, the former head coach of Shillong Lajong FC senior team in a Facebook post.
The Ex-India midfield maestro Carlton Chapman who passed away this morning had a deep connection with Shillong as he was also a former head coach of Royal Wahingdoh Fc and under him; they won three Shillong Premier League titles and Bordoloi Trophy in 2011.
Bobby Nongbet began his career as a youth coach at Shillong Lajong and Royal Wahingdoh.
Royal Wahingdoh F.C. holds the record for the highest number of consecutive Shillong Premier League titles, having won the finals in December 2010, 2011 and 2012. They played in I-League 2nd Division for the 2013–14 season. They won the league by defeating Bhowanipore F.C. in the last match of the league and qualified to play for the 2014–15 season of the I-League.
As a coach, Chapman had stints with I-League second division club Tata Football Academy, Royal Wahingdoh FC of Shillong and Sudeva Moonlight FC of Delhi.
